  • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on Bluefin voyage BF2018_V01, 'Hydrographic survey of the Petuna Aquaculture Sites in SW Bass Strait' which departed Stanley, Tasmania on the 27th June 2018 and returned to Beauty Point, Tasmania on the 4th July 2018. This survey was a part of a broader mapping campaign that involved a survey of the Boags Commonwealth Marine Reserve. The Kongsberg EM2040c multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter at the Boags Marine Reserve in the Bass Strait. The EM2040c provides a 1.3° by 1.3° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively. The echosounder's nominal frequency was 300 kHz and was operated in dual swath mode. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 269 files totalling 73.6 GB of raw .all data, and 269 files totalling 0.64Tb of raw .wcd in this combined campaign dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were not applied to the final processed dataset. Instead the data was mapped to the ellipsoid (GPS Height) and thereafter reduced to AHD (Australian Height Datum) using the AusGeoid09 model. Processed data has had outliers removed. Processed line data are available in *.gsf and ascii format, and processed bathymetry and backscatter grids in geotiff format.   • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator Voyage IN2020_V01, titled: “Development of William’s Ridge, Kerguelen Plateau: tectonics, hotspot magmatism, microcontinents, and Australia’s Extended Continental Shelf” between January 08 and March 06, 2020 departing from Henderson (WA) and returning back to Fremantle (WA). The Kongsberg EM122 multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry, backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter at Rig Seismic Seamount, Williams Ridge, Broken Ridge and on associated transits. The EM122 provides a 1 degree by 1 degree angular resolution. The echosounder's nominal frequency is 12 kHz. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 2164 files totalling 174 GB of raw data in this dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were not applied to the processed data. Processed data had outliers removed.   • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on voyage BF2020_v01 aboard the AMC's vessel the Bluefin. The vessel departed Beauty Point on the 11/08/2020 and returned to Beauty Point on the 17/08/2020. The Kongsberg EM2040c multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry, backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter. The survey area was ~4km to the south east of Golden Beach was ~6.2 km x ~15.4 km. (Area surveyed including turns totalled 103.7 km2). This survey area encompasses previously surveyed areas (2017 and 2018) and extended seaward to a depth of 26m. The EM2040c provides a 1.3 degree by 1.3 degree angular resolution. The echosounder's nominal frequency is 300 kHz and it operated in dual swath mode. This project also utilised a dual head arrangement enabling a greater swath coverage. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. Raw data files include: - 545 *.all files totalling 195GB - 513 *.wcd files totalling 1.35TB Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Processed data was corrected to AHD utilising the AusGeoid2020 geoid model. Processed data had outliers removed.   • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2016_V05, "The Great Barrier Reef as a significant source of climatically relevant aerosol particles". The voyage departed Brisbane on 28th September 2016. Leg 1 ended on 11 October with a personnel transfer at Fitzroy Island. Leg 2 ended on 16 October with another personnel transfer at Magnetic Island, then the voyage ended in Brisbane on 24 October 2016. The Kongsberg EM710 MKII multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information and watercolumn backscatter during most of the survey. The EM710 MKII provides a 0.5° by 1° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively. The echosounder's nominal frequency range is from 40 to 100 kHz. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 489 files totalling 393 GB of raw data in this dataset.   • This record describes shallow multibeam data collected on RV Tangaroa voyage TAN2021_V01 (NIWA TAN2113), which was carried out on a contract to the CSIRO MNF from 9th November to 4th December 2021. The voyage had two objectives, which were to recover 27 Ocean Bottom Seismometers which had been deployed around Macquarie Island on IN2020_v06, and complete multibeam and sub bottom profiler mapping along the crest of the Macquarie Ridge and collect new multibeam data during transits. The Kongsberg Maritime EM2040 was used to obtain swath bathymetry, backscatter, and water column data in shallower water (20 - 300 m), using Kongsberg Seafloor Information System (SIS) version 4.3.2 acquisition system. The EM2040 is a single RX system, with 256 beams (or 576 beams in dual swath mode), yielding 400 soundings (or 800 soundings in High Density mode). Water column data, which show the received amplitude of the entire water column for each beam, were recorded simultaneoulsy with the multibeam echosounder data. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 129 files totalling 11.6 GB of raw data in this dataset. There are 129 files totalling 152 GB of water column data. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Raw data (*.all files) were processed using QPS Qimera v2.4.2 for bathymetry and QPS Geocoder Toolbox (FMGT) v7.10.0 for acoustic seafloor backscatter. *.gpd files were generated by Qimera for each *.all file after editing. The quality of the bathymetry data was examined, and surfaces of varying resolution generated for each survey area. The data were cleaned in both 2D and 3D manually. Where appropriate a medium spline filter was used. Gridded bathymetric surfaces were projected in WGS84 / UTM zone 57S (EPSG:32757) coordinate reference system at varying resolutions. Bathymetry datasets were collated, and maps produced in ArcGIS Pro v2.8.3. Water column data files (.wcd) were not processed onboard. The Kongsberg EM2040c multibeam echo sounder (dual transceivers) was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information [(and watercolumn backscatter)] around Bass Strait. The EM2040c provides a 1.3° by 1.3° transmit and receive angular resolution respectively (single transceiver). The echosounder's nominal frequency range was [300 kHz] and it was operated in dual swath mode. Data are stored in *.all raw format for bathymetry and backscatter and *.wcd format for watercolumn backscatter at CSIRO. There are 435 files totalling 99 GB of raw .all data in the dataset. Sound velocity profiles were applied to this data during data acquisition. Bathymetry data contained in *.all format are corrected for motion and position. Tide corrections were applied to the processed data. Processed data has had outliers removed. Processed line data are not available in *.gsf and ascii format, but can be requested if required.   • This record describes multibeam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2016_V03, 'Monitoring Ocean Change and Variability along 170° W from the ice edge to the equator', which departed Hobart on the 26 April 2016 and returned to Lautoka, Fiji on the 30 June 2016. There was a port call at Wellington, New Zealand, 26 - 27 May for some science personnel change; this resulted in two "legs" of the voyage therefore Leg 1 is 26 April - 26 May 2016, and Leg 2 27 May - 30 June 2016. The Kongsberg EM710 MKII multibeam echosounder was used to acquire seafloor bathymetry and backscatter information.
